André Rieu, the Dutch violinist known as the King of the Waltz, is coming back to Abu Dhabi. He will play Etihad Arena on Yas Island on Saturday 17 April 2027 with his Johann Strauss Orchestra, a touring ensemble of about 60 musicians.
The concert is presented by MAC Global, a Sony Music company, with the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi and Miral, the developer behind Yas Island's attractions. Platinumlist, the ticket seller, describes the evening as a mix of classical favourites, opera, film music and songs from musicals, with the Strauss waltzes that made Rieu famous at its centre. The arena already promotes the date on its own home page, and the concert appears on Rieu's official tour list as well.
Rieu, born in Maastricht, has turned classical concerts into large, lively shows: the orchestra plays in ballgowns and tails, audiences are encouraged to dance in the aisles, and his summer concerts in his home town's main square are filmed and shown in cinemas around the world each year. Platinumlist says he has sold more than 40 million albums. For Abu Dhabi, the April date falls in the spring season, after the city's big winter run of arena concerts.
Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. There is no age limit, but every guest needs a ticket, children under two go in free on a parent's lap, and anyone under 16 must be with an adult aged 21 or over. Re-entry is not allowed, bags larger than 30 by 30 by 15 centimetres are refused and there is no cloakroom, so travel light. Professional cameras are not allowed.
Ticket prices have not been published yet. Platinumlist is taking pre-registrations now, which it says give the first chance to buy when sales open, and What's On reports that tickets go on sale on 29 October. Seats for Rieu's Gulf dates usually sell steadily, so if you want a particular block, register before the sale. Tickets are not refundable or transferable once bought. Etihad Arena is on Yas Island, off the Abu Dhabi to Dubai highway, about an hour's drive from central Dubai; the nearest bus stop, Al Matar Al Qadeem, is about 800 metres away, and taxis drop at the arena.
