Paid parking reaches Jebel Ali Industrial and Al Furjan
Parkin now charges Dh4.20 an hour from 8am to 10pm in Jebel Ali Industrial Area (code 599T), and has opened subscription-only parking in Al Furjan (zone 591P).
Two more parts of Dubai have joined the paid public parking network. Parkin, the company that runs the city's public parking, has brought fees to Jebel Ali Industrial Area and introduced subscription-only spaces in parts of Al Furjan, and signs are now up in both areas.
In Jebel Ali Industrial Area, spaces marked with code 599T are paid from 8am to 10pm, at Dh4.20 an hour. Parkin first announced the zone on its own channels earlier this week, as Emirates 24|7 reported on 4 November. Drivers who park there every day can buy a subscription instead: Dh315 for one month, Dh840 for three months, Dh1,680 for six months or Dh2,940 for a year, all through the Parkin app, and open to residents and visitors.
In Al Furjan, designated spaces fall under zone 591P and work by subscription only. According to The National, the plans cost Dh1,999 for one month, Dh3,999 for three months and Dh4,999 for a year. No hourly rate or hours for the Al Furjan spaces have been published.
The two areas follow a run of new zones over the past year, including Dubai Islands and Warsan Industrial last month. Parkin also renewed its 10-year agreement with DMCC in October to keep running about 2,800 paid spaces in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, 250 of them for motorcycles. Dubai's stated aim for the expansion is to cut illegal parking and make better use of the spaces available.
If you live or work in either area, check the sign by the bay before you leave the car: it shows the zone code you need to pay. Hourly parking in Jebel Ali Industrial can be paid through the Parkin app, by SMS or WhatsApp, in the RTA or DubaiNow apps, or at the payment machines. A start date for fines and the rules on Sundays and public holidays have not been announced for either area, so watch the signs and the Parkin app for updates. If you park in the same place most days, compare the monthly subscription with what you spend by the hour before you choose.
