Sharjah Calligraphy Biennale opens with 681 works, on until 15 November

The 12th Sharjah Calligraphy Biennale has opened at Calligraphy Square in the Heart of Sharjah, with 681 works and 90 events until 15 November.

The 12th Sharjah Calligraphy Biennale is open at Calligraphy Square in the Heart of Sharjah district and runs until 15 November 2026. It was opened on Wednesday 7 October by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, Gulf Today reported.

The biennale is organised by Sharjah's Department of Culture and focuses on Arabic calligraphy and what artists do with it today. This edition shows 681 artworks and calligraphic works.

The programme has 90 events, including exhibitions, art workshops, lectures and seminars. Artists and calligraphers taking part come from countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and Germany.

The report does not mention an entry fee. The biennale was first held twenty years ago.
