Tesla reveals the new Roadster, with a thruster version that can jump
Tesla showed its long-delayed Roadster in Texas on 15 October in three versions, with reservations from $50,000 and production planned for 2028. No UAE price or date has been given.
Tesla unveiled the second-generation Roadster on 15 October at an event near Waco, Texas, almost a decade after it was first promised. During the show the car used compressed-air thrusters to leave the ground and clear a row of other Tesla vehicles.
It comes in three versions. Performance seats two and has active aerodynamics, with 0 to 60 mph (about 97 km/h) in under 1.6 seconds. Thrust, also a two-seater, adds rear cold-gas thrusters and cuts that to under 0.9 seconds; it is a limited release. Rocket is a single-seater with thrusters around the body, 0 to 60 mph in under 0.59 seconds and a top speed above 230 mph (about 370 km/h). It is by invitation only, and Tesla says it is not approved for public roads. Range is quoted at more than 300 miles, roughly 480 km.
Tesla gave no price for any version. Reservations for Performance cost $50,000 in total: $5,000 on the day and the remaining $45,000 within ten days, otherwise the booking is cancelled. Reports from the event put the Thrust reservation at $250,000. Elon Musk said production starts in 2028.
For buyers in the UAE, Tesla has not announced a local price, a reservation amount in dirhams or a delivery date. Anyone thinking of booking should check Tesla's UAE website or its showrooms first, and keep in mind that the earliest cars are about two years away.
