Abu Dhabi and The Boring Company to study underground tunnels
Abu Dhabi's Projects and Infrastructure Centre has signed an agreement with Elon Musk's tunnelling firm to assess tunnels for transport and utilities. No project is confirmed yet.
The Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC) has signed an agreement with The Boring Company, the tunnelling firm founded by Elon Musk, to look at how underground tunnels could serve the emirate.
The agreement was signed at the Liveability and Investment Exhibition (LIVEX 2026) in Abu Dhabi by ADPIC Director General Maysarah Mahmoud Salim Eid and The Boring Company President Steve Davis, Gulf News reported on 8 October.
The two sides will study underground transport, utility tunnels and related infrastructure: whether projects are feasible, how they could be built and run, and how to build tunnelling skills locally. The work also covers tunnel planning, boring technology, safety standards and automation.
No routes, costs or timelines have been announced, and no underground transport project is confirmed at this stage.
