Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has completed the conversion of the Al Satwa Roundabout on 2nd December Street into a signalised intersection, it announced on Wednesday 14 October. The junction carries traffic between 2nd December Street, the Trade Centre area and the streets of Al Satwa, in both directions. The work also upgraded the road and the infrastructure around it.

RTA said the new layout has cut journey times through the junction by 50 per cent and reduced waiting times and queues by up to 60 per cent at peak hours. It also said the design makes it easier for buses to enter and leave Al Satwa, and improves safety for drivers and pedestrians.

The authority described the project as a complement to its World Trade Centre Roundabout development, which is reworking the links between the Trade Centre, Sheikh Zayed Road and the roads around them, and said it improves access to Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Bada'a, Al Jafiliya, Al Hudaiba and Jumeirah.

If you drive through Al Satwa, expect traffic lights and marked turning lanes where the roundabout used to be, with pedestrian crossings on each arm. Bus riders on routes through Al Satwa should see fewer delays getting in and out of the area. RTA has not announced further changes at the junction.
