The best padel players in the world are back in Dubai from tomorrow. The Emaar Dubai Premier Padel P1 runs from Sunday 8 November to Sunday 15 November at Hamdan Sports Complex, with eight days of men's and women's matches on the Premier Padel tour.
The centre court sits inside the complex's converted Olympic pool, which the ticket page describes as an arena of more than 7,000 seats. Qualifying opens the week on Sunday and Monday from 10am. The first round starts on Tuesday from noon, with night sessions on the centre court at 7pm from Tuesday to Friday. The round of 16 is on Thursday and the quarter-finals on Friday. The women's semi-finals are on Saturday at 4pm and the men's at 7pm. On Sunday the women's final starts at 6pm and the men's final at 8pm.
The organisers name Agustín Tapia, Juan Lebrón, Ale Galán, Arturo Coello, Gemma Triay, Delfina Brea and Bea González among the players. Tapia and Coello won the men's title here last year, when Claudia Fernández and Bea González took the women's trophy in the tournament's second edition. The event is run by Gallop Global, with Emaar as title sponsor.
The tournament is also bringing padel into the city centre. A show court at Dubai Opera Garden, facing Burj Khalifa, is being unveiled on the opening day. Iván Modia, chief executive of Gallop Global and tournament director, told Gulf News that Dubai continues to set new standards in sport and entertainment.
Tickets are sold on Platinumlist, from AED 45 for general admission up to AED 1,800 for VIP seats, which include hospitality areas, food and drinks and their own parking. The ticket page's FAQ says complimentary tickets are available for the qualifying stages on 9 and 10 November. General admission is open to children aged five and over. Parking for general admission is limited and works on a first come, first served basis, so allow extra time on the busy final weekend. Hamdan Sports Complex is on Emirates Road at exit 611, opposite Global Village. Filming and photographing the matches is not allowed, and lighters, cigarettes and sharp objects are banned.
