How to pay a traffic fine in Dubai through the RTA
Six steps to check and pay vehicle fines online, in the app or at a machine, with the fee the RTA adds to each fine.
DubaiYou cannot renew a driving licence or a vehicle registration in Dubai while fines are unpaid, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) says. Its Pay Vehicle Fines service covers fines issued in Dubai, other emirates, municipalities and GCC countries. These steps are taken from the RTA's own service page.
1. Have one detail ready: the RTA asks for any one of the fine number, the plate details, the driving licence number or the traffic file number.
2. Choose a channel: the RTA lists its website, the Mahboub chatbot, the RTA Dubai app, the Dubai Now app and self-service machines. Payment is instant on all of them.
3. On the website: open the Fines Enquiry and Payment page, enter your details or sign in with UAE Pass, select the fines and pay. The receipt arrives by email.
4. In the RTA Dubai or Dubai Now app: choose Pay Fines for Others, enter the details and pay. At a self-service machine the steps are the same, and you can pay in cash or by card.
5. If the fine carries black points or vehicle impounding: select Payable Black Points, say whether you were driving and enter the traffic code sent to you by SMS. If someone else was driving, enter their licence details so they can declare the points with their own code. Then pay. An undertaking letter is issued with the receipt.
6. Know the cost: you pay the fine amount plus a Knowledge and Innovation fee of Dh20 per fine. The RTA accepts cash and credit cards.
Two limits to note. Counters at Customer Happiness Centres and vehicle registration centres take fine payments only when you are there for another service, such as renewal or registration. A fine that cannot be paid in Dubai has to be taken up with the authority that issued it. The RTA page does not mention discounts or instalments, so check with the RTA before counting on either.
