How to renew your Emirates ID onlineUAE

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) lets you renew an Emirates ID online once it has expired, or when less than one year is left for UAE nationals or less than six months for residents. Your passport must be valid for at least three months. Residents in Dubai should note that ICP says the combined residence and ID form applies in every emirate except Dubai, where residence renewal goes through its own channel.

1. Sign in: Open the ICP Smart Services website or the UAEICP app and log in with UAE PASS. The head of the family, a guardian or a legal representative can also apply.

2. Choose the service: Select Identity Card Renewal and review the details the system fills in. Correct anything that is wrong.

3. Add a new photo: Upload a recent personal photo. ICP says it must not be the same photo as on your current card. Upload other documents only if the system cannot fetch them.

4. Pay the fee: ICP lists Dh100 per year of residence for residents, Dh100 for the smart application, Dh100 for a five-year card for nationals under 21 and Dh200 for a ten-year card for nationals 21 and over. Urgent service costs Dh150 more and is only offered at service centres.

5. Give fingerprints if asked: Anyone aged 15 or older may need to visit a service centre to give fingerprints and a signature.

6. Receive the card: The standard card is delivered by courier, and ICP gives five days as the completion time.

Late renewal costs Dh20 a day, up to Dh1,000, so start before the card expires. ICP's call centre is 600 522222. Checked on 9 October 2026 on the ICP service page.
