A full-size replica of the Infinity Gauntlet from the Marvel films, set with six real gemstones, will be auctioned in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday 8 December. The American auction house Julien's Auctions has made it a headline lot of its Pop Culture Legends evening sale at Rosewood Abu Dhabi on Al Maryah Island.

The glove was made by East Continental Gems, a family-run New York gem company, using design files Marvel gave it for the on-screen Gauntlet. It stands nearly 20 inches (about 50cm) tall, and each of the six Infinity Stones is a real, untreated gem: a ruby, a garnet, a sapphire, an amethyst, an emerald and a yellow diamond, together weighing more than 170 carats. Every stone has been certified by American Gemological Laboratories, and the diamond also has a report from the Gemological Institute of America. The emerald used as the Time Stone was found more than a century ago and has been in the company's hands for over 30 years.

The piece comes with a signed certificate from Jim Starlin, who created the original Infinity Gauntlet story in Marvel Comics, and its own fitted case. It was first shown at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, when it was offered for sale at $25 million (about Dh92 million). Julien's has not published an estimate for the Abu Dhabi sale: it gives it privately to approved bidders.

"Presenting it in Abu Dhabi, as part of Pop Culture Legends auction, gives it a stage worthy of what it is," said Ken Citron, chief executive of Julien's Auctions. The evening sale also covers music, film and fashion, with items linked to names such as Bruce Lee, Banksy, Amy Winehouse and Kurt Cobain, according to Gulf News, and it is part of a week of Julien's events in the capital that includes a Michael Jackson sale.

Bidding is not open to walk-ins: bidders must be approved by Julien's in advance, and can then bid in the room, by telephone or with an absentee bid. Registration, the catalogue and any public viewing times are on juliensauctions.com. The sale starts at 8pm UAE time on 8 December, ten days before the Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday reaches cinemas.
