Orionid meteor shower peaks on 21 and 22 October, with a desert watch at Al Qudra
Dubai Astronomy Group is running a night of meteor watching and telescope viewing in the Al Qudra desert, from Dh150.
The Orionids, a yearly meteor shower made of dust left by Halley's Comet, are expected to peak on the nights of 21 and 22 October. The meteors seem to come from near the constellation Orion, and the best views are away from city lights.
Dubai Astronomy Group will hold a viewing in the Al Qudra desert from 10pm to 2am on both nights, with meteor watching, telescope observation, astrophotography and sky mapping. Places start at Dh150 and are booked through the group's Instagram account, @dubaiastronomy.
Anyone going alone should head well outside the city, give their eyes time to adjust to the dark and check the weather first, as cloud or dust will hide the show.
