Dubai awards Dh3 billion for 100km of new rain drains in 11 areas
Dubai Municipality has signed four Phase 3 contracts of its Tasreef programme, adding about 100km of main stormwater lines in areas from Jumeirah to Al Barsha.
Dubai Municipality has awarded four contracts worth Dh3 billion under Phase 3 of Tasreef, its programme to expand the city's stormwater drainage, the Dubai Government Media Office announced on Sunday 25 October.
The work covers about 100km of main drainage lines, with pipes up to 3 metres wide, that will connect to the municipality's main stormwater network and raise how much water it can carry. The lines run through 11 areas: Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Safa, Al Manara, Al Quoz, Al Barsha, Al Wasl, Za'abeel, Al Bada'a, Al Satwa and Al Marmoom, nearly 100 square kilometres in all.
Tasreef is a Dh30 billion programme. Its first contracts were signed in April 2025 and Phase 2, five projects worth Dh2.5 billion, in February 2026.
If you live or work in one of the 11 areas, expect road works as the lines are laid; completion dates for each area have not been announced yet. The aim is that rainwater drains away faster from these streets after heavy storms, the kind of flooding Dubai saw in April 2024.
