Apple's new iMac with M6 is priced from Dh6,499 in the UAE
Pre-orders for the 24-inch iMac with the M6 chip open in the UAE tonight, with the computer in stores from Friday, November 6.
Apple has refreshed its all-in-one iMac with the new M6 chip, and the UAE gets it at the same time as the rest of the world. Pre-orders open on Apple's UAE online store at 9.10pm on Wednesday, October 28, and the computer goes on sale on Friday, November 6. Apple's UAE store lists the new model from Dh6,499.
The outside of the iMac has not changed much. It keeps the thin 24-inch body with a 4.5K Retina display, and comes in seven colours: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver, each with a colour-matched keyboard and mouse. The change is inside. The M6 chip has up to a 12-core processor and a 12-core graphics chip, two more cores each than the M4 model it replaces, and Apple says graphics are up to twice as fast as before. It also claims on-device AI tasks run up to five times faster than on the M4 iMac, helped by what it calls a Dual 16-core Neural Engine.
Connections have been updated too. The new iMac has Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports, optional 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet and storage that Apple says is up to twice as fast. It ships with macOS 27, which brings the company's new Siri AI assistant and Apple Intelligence features to the Mac.
For anyone still on an older Intel-based iMac, Apple says the jump is much bigger, with up to 18 times faster performance than its most popular Intel model. Against the M1 iMac of 2021, it quotes up to 2.5 times faster performance in apps such as Microsoft Excel. These figures come from Apple's own tests.
In the UAE there are two starting points on Apple's online store. The model with a 10-core processor and 10-core graphics starts at Dh6,499, and the 12-core model, which has four Thunderbolt ports and comes with a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, starts at Dh7,499. Both start with 16GB of memory and 256GB of storage, and the 12-core model can be ordered with more memory, more storage and a nano-texture glass screen at a higher price. Abroad, Apple has kept the starting price the same as the M4 model.
If you want one, pre-orders open tonight at 9.10pm UAE time on Apple's UAE website and in the Apple Store app, and the first deliveries and in-store sales begin on November 6 at Apple's stores in Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Yas Mall, as well as authorised resellers. Prices on Apple's own store include VAT; resellers may charge differently.
