Frozen, Encanto and The Lion King play live with an orchestra in Abu Dhabi

Four family films are coming to Etihad Arena on Yas Island in December, each shown on a big screen while a full orchestra plays the score live in the hall. The Armenian State Symphony Orchestra performs all four concerts over three days, from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 December.

The run opens with Disney's Encanto on Friday 18 December at 6pm. Saturday 19 December has two shows: Disney's Frozen at 1pm and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York at 6pm, with John Williams's score. Disney's The Lion King closes the weekend on Sunday 20 December at 1pm, with Hans Zimmer's Oscar-winning score and songs including Circle of Life and Hakuna Matata. Each film is a separate show with its own ticket.

Film concerts of this kind have become a regular part of the UAE's winter calendar, and the afternoon times on the Saturday and Sunday are clearly aimed at families with younger children. The films are shown in English with Arabic subtitles.

Seats on the Encanto and The Lion King pages range from Dh80 in the lower tier bronze area to Dh490 for floor royal seats, with silver at Dh120, gold at Dh160, diamond at Dh200, platinum at Dh240 and floor VIP at Dh280, all including VAT. Yas Island also sells the concerts through its own website.

There is no age limit. Children under two go free if they sit on a parent's lap, and anyone under 16 must come with an adult aged 21 or over. Doors open an hour before each show and seats from 30 minutes before; latecomers wait for a suitable break, and there is a lock-out of up to 10 minutes at the start of each act. Strollers are not allowed inside, though there is stroller parking, bags must be smaller than 30 by 30 by 15cm, there is no cloakroom and there is no re-entry.
