Emirates Road lanes and Al Maktoum airport tunnel close for driverless taxi tests

Three lanes of Emirates Road (E611) and the Al Maktoum Airport tunnel close from 9am to 4pm daily, 26 to 31 October, so companies can test self-driving taxis.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is closing three lanes of Emirates Road (E611) and the whole of the Al Maktoum Airport tunnel, in both directions, from Monday 26 October to Saturday 31 October. The closures run every day from 9am to 4pm.

The RTA announced the closures on Sunday and said they are there so autonomous taxi companies can run tests on the highway. It has not said which stretch of the road or which lanes are affected.

If you drive Emirates Road or use the airport tunnel near Dubai South between 9am and 4pm this week, leave extra time and follow the diversion signs on the road. Both reopen fully outside those hours, and normal traffic returns after Saturday afternoon.
