Jais 3 is out: UAE-built Arabic AI models, free to download

MBZUAI's Institute of Foundation Models and Inception have released six open Jais 3 language models and a speech model that handles Arabic dialects.

Jais 3, the newest version of the UAE's Arabic AI model, was released this week by the Institute of Foundation Models at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and Inception, working with Cerebras Systems, Gulf News reported.

The release has six open language models, from 900 million to 375 billion parameters, built on the institute's K2 Horizon models. They write and work in Arabic across dialects, including Emirati, Gulf and North African Arabic, and can help with tasks such as drafting documents and presentations. Alongside them comes Jais Speech, a speech recognition model that follows speakers who switch into English or French and can add Arabic vowel marks to the text.

The smallest model is light enough to run on a phone, according to the report, while the larger ones are meant for government bodies and companies that want to adapt the models and choose where they run.

The models and Jais Speech are free to download from Hugging Face. They are tools for developers rather than a ready-made chat app, so most people will meet them inside other services. Details are on the institute's website, ifm.ai.
