Pakistanis in the UAE now get e-passports, from Dh145 for five years
The Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai process new passport applications as e-passports from 23 October. Valid machine-readable passports stay valid.
Pakistani residents of the UAE who apply for a passport now receive an e-passport. The Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi said new applications at the embassy and at the Consulate General in Dubai are processed as e-passports from 23 October.
Fees depend on pages, validity and speed. A 36-page passport costs Dh145 for five years or Dh215 for ten years at normal speed, and Dh235 or Dh355 urgent. A 72-page passport costs Dh260 for five years or Dh390 for ten years, and Dh425 or Dh635 urgent. Replacing a lost passport costs double the normal fee the first time and four times the fee the second time.
If your machine-readable passport is still valid, you do not need to replace it: it stays valid until it expires, and the embassy advises renewing only when less than six months remain. Both a first name and a last name are now required, so check that your details meet the naming rule before you book an appointment with the embassy or the Dubai consulate.
