Arab Reading Challenge crowns its winners at Dubai World Trade Centre on 29 October

More than 40.2 million students from 60 countries took part this year, and the overall champion takes home Dh500,000.

The Arab Reading Challenge will name this year's winners at a closing ceremony at Dubai World Trade Centre on Thursday 29 October, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives said.

This edition drew 40,286,428 students from 60 countries, 24 per cent more than the last one, including 74,062 students in the People of Determination category. They came from 138,426 schools and were guided by 161,507 supervisors.

The overall champion wins Dh500,000, with Dh100,000 for second place and Dh70,000 for third. The best school takes Dh1 million, and there are separate prizes for People of Determination, community readers and supervisors. The organisers say Dh11 million is given out every year.

For families in Dubai, the final is the end of a year of reading that starts in schools: pupils who want to enter the next edition register through their school, which has to take part through the challenge's own platform. The organisers have not said whether the ceremony is open to the public.
