Charlie Koolhaas opens Synchronicity at XVA Gallery in Al Fahidi
Photographs, sculpture and painted-over prints drawn from ten years in China, at XVA Gallery from 24 October to 12 November.
XVA Gallery in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood opens Synchronicity, a show by the artist Charlie Koolhaas, on Saturday 24 October. It runs until Thursday 12 November.
The exhibition brings together three linked bodies of work. Large documentary photographs from her archive of ten years living in China catch chance meetings between people, animals, food, objects and buildings; sculptures turn her photographs of city streets into physical forms; and paintings made over photographs pick out the links she sees in them. The title comes from Carl Jung's idea of synchronicity, meaningful coincidence. "Objects that have arrived independently in the same place suddenly appear to belong together," the gallery says of her work.
The gallery is open every day from 10am to 6pm, and the XVA Café next door is open from 7am to 10pm. XVA is in the lanes of Al Fahidi, near Al Fahidi Metro station on the Green Line; the gallery's page does not list an entry fee, so call +971 4 353 3462 if you want to check before you go.
