When Chai Met Toast, one of India's best-loved independent bands, play Dubai for one night on Saturday 14 November at New Covent Garden Theatre in Mall of the Emirates, Live Nation Middle East has announced.
The four-piece formed in Kochi, in Kerala, and their sound sits between indie, folk, pop and soft rock. Their songs move between English, Hindi and Tamil, and the ones fans will know include Firefly, Khoj (Passing By), Yellow Paper Daisy, Joy of Little Things and Ocean Tide. Live Nation describes their shows as built on crowd singalongs and storytelling between songs, the kind of gig where the audience knows the words.
For Dubai's large Keralite and wider South Indian community, a band from Kochi playing a theatre rather than an arena is a chance to see them close up. New Covent Garden Theatre is the seated theatre inside Mall of the Emirates, and the same venue hosts Paul Chowdhry's stand-up on 18 December and Live Nation's Cinderella pantomime through December.
Tickets are on sale on livenation.me, where seat prices and the start time are shown. Mall of the Emirates has its own Dubai Metro station on the Red Line and large car parks, which fill up on Saturday evenings, so the Metro is the easier way in. The show is one night only.
